SERT 5TH ON LE MANS ENDURANCE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GRID
Team Suzuki Press Office – April 20.
SERT – #2 GSX-R1000 – 5th
April Motos Events - #50 GSX-R1000 - 15th
Team R2CL - #87 GSX-R1000 – 18th
Junior Team Le Mans Sud - #72 GSX-R1000 - 7th SST
Suzuki Endurance Racing Team will start tomorrow’s 41st Anniversary 24 Heures Motos in Le Mans in France from fifth position on the grid after final qualifying today.
SERT riders Etienne Masson and Gregg Black both improved their times today aboard the French team’s 2018 GSX-R1000; Masson putting-in a time of 1.37.978 at the Circuit Bugatti; and Black a lap-time of 1.37.469. These times, combined with Vincent Philippe’s best time of 1.37.122 yesterday – which he wasn’t able to improve on today – moved the 15-times Endurance World Champions up the starting grid two positions and the team is confident with the various settings tested today throughout the sessions on track.
Team Manager Dominique Meliand said: “Our bike is good and today we’ve been closer to the Pole Position, but for the race, we are aware of our strengths. Our seventh position at Bol d’Or did not reflect the potential of our bike. Indeed, before
facing some technical problems, that were not directly linked to the bike, we had led the race for 12 hours, so it’s up to us now to prove the true value of the GSX-R1000 at Le Mans!”
Team April Moto Motors Events will start the race in 15th place on the grid and the R2CL Team is 18th, just ahead of the Junior Team Le Mans Sud (7th in the SST category).
Other Suzuki teams include Atomic 68 Team (27th) and No Limits Motor Team (28th).
The 41st edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours will start tomorrow at 15:00hrs (local time).
