WATERS & SUZUKI PODIUM AT MOTUL MX NATIONALS
Team Suzuki Press Office – April 18.
Todd Waters put his Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki RM-Z450 on the podium at round two of the Australian Motul MX Nationals at Appin on Sunday.
Waters, who set the fastest time in qualifying, also took victory in the GoPro Superpole, taking the victory with an incredible 1:40.295 lap-time; but a mediocre start in race one saw him mid-pack and forced to fight through to third position at the end of the 30-minute moto.
In race two, the Australian upped his game to finish second on the “Thor Podium” which put him third overall in the championship standings on 119 points with eight rounds still to run.
Todd Waters:
“I was a bit ‘bummed’ with my first race. I started the day off well taking the win in Superpole, so I knew my speed was there, but I just needed to get off the line well, but I sort of blew the start in the first moto. I pushed my way through and got into the lead and I started to settle in there, then ‘Gibbsy’ got onto the back of me and I sort of just lost my head a bit.
“My fitness is super good, and the bike is running perfectly, so in that first race it was all up to me and my headspace. In the second race I regrouped and managed to get onto the back of Brett Metcalfe but I just ran out of time. Overall I’m very happy. We are constantly moving forward with the bike, with the team and myself also, so this is what we want – consistent rides, and then hit the half-way mark in the series and put the hammer down.
“My Suzuki is working really well, we made a few changes with Jay Foreman coming into round two, and I’m really happy with the bike at the moment. I’m just going to go home, do my homework and see what I can do at round 3.”
Neale Wilson
–Team Manger:
“Wow, what a day, we really couldn’t be happier. Being a new team, we have worked very hard to get our package to where we want it, and it is days like this that it really pays off. Todd rode very well in both races; he rode smart, and that’s what wins championships.
“We have such a fantastic team to work with, as well as a number of very dedicated sponsors - the list is too long to even mention, so it’s a great reward for them to have Todd finish on the podium, especially in such a talent-packed MX1 class. Next round will be at Broadford and we’re all looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”
Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki will now begin preparations for round three of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals at Broadford, Victoria on Sunday May 1st.
